Twenty miles east of Sparks, Nevada, is a high desert that has history written all over it. And for many years, we have seen this area as one of the best places to visit when we just need to see around. Well, right there, over the dirty red dust of that desert, a factory is rising, and this factory belongs to pioneer automaker, Tesla.
Right now, you may see something that doesn’t look exactly like a factory as all you can find there are a few structures and steel girders. Tesla said that this few structures will, one day, become the foundation for a Gigafactory, and this is the place where transportation will be redefined.
Elon Musk plans to build the batteries that will be powering the company’s electric vehicles. Prior to this time, the company has mainly imported its batteries from Asia and it could be very challenging to achieve the company’s aim of producing 500,000 cars in a year if it relies on importation alone. So it’s imperative that a battery factory is built right here.
Speaking of the factory, Elon Musk said that, “the factory is the machine that builds a machine.” Well, that’s a fitting description of what the factory can do, and how extensive we can expect Musk to use it.
