Tesla’s new radar technology is proving as useful as you could ever imagine, and recent happenings prove how cool it is at preventing accidents.
There is a video of an accident on a highway in the Netherlands that was caught on the dashcam of a Tesla Model X. This video shows the autopilot’s forward collision warning predicting an accident even when the driver hasn’t noticed such.
At the announcement of the version 8.0 of its software update in September, the company revealed a new radar processing technology that came over-the-air to all Tesla’s vehicles that are equipped with the company’s first autopilot hardware. One of the many features of the radar’s processing capacity is the system’s ability to see ahead of the car that’s directly in front of you, and it can even track two cars ahead. The radar has also been designed to bounce underneath and around the automobile in front of the Tesla car and see areas the driver may not be able to see because of the obstruction of the vehicle ahead.
