Complete paralysis is one of the most painful experiences for anybody as it makes it impossible to use some very important means of communication. Patients gradually lose the ability to move, their ability to speak and it gets to a point where they stop seeing, making it just impossible to have communication with the outside world. In other words, they are completely trapped in their minds.
Well, this new device will be making it easy to know what your patients have in mind, when they are happy or sad, when they need something or if they are satisfied. The new system was developed by a team of European researchers, and it could be the next link these locked-in patients have with the outside world.
This machine has been designed to translate brain activity into simple yes or no answers to questions with about 60-70 percent accuracy; this system will, no doubt, be the first step towards being able to reopen communication channels with patients that can’t communicate with the outside world.
Four patients took part in the study, and it would amaze you to know that some of these have been locked-in for as long as seven years. Within 10 days of using this machine, they were able to finally tell their loved ones how they felt at each point in time.
