Instagram Stories Surpasses Snapchat in Just 8 Months

At just eight months since its inception, it has been announced by the parent company Facebook’s Instagram, that Instagram Stories has hit 200 million daily active users, a feat which puts the Instagram feature way ahead of its main competition and the originator of the ‘stories’ feature, Snapchat.

Snapchat reported 161 million daily active users ahead of its parent company Snap’s IPO last month.

Instagram Stories which was launched in August had already raked in 100 million daily users by October and has continued unabated, with 150 million dailies in January and now constitutes a third of Instagram’s total 600 million users,  but its meteoric rise might be partly due to Facebook’s blatant replication of even snap’s most technologically advanced features.

Along with the announcement,  Instagram launched a new stories feature called pinning for stickers and text,  an apparent rip-off of Snapchat’s augmented reality stickers and texts which when stuck to videos, can track the motion of a target, altering its movements and size to match that of the character in the video.
