Facebook Acquires an AI Startup to help Messenger build out its personal assistant

Facebook has obtained Ozlo, a Palo Alto-based artificial intelligence startup, to enable Messenger to work out a more detailed virtual assistant for its clients.

Ozlo has practical experience in understanding content based discussions, and cases it can understand and give answers to questions that don’t really have basic yes or no answers — what Ozlo calls “probabilistic assertions of truth.”

On the organization’s site, for instance, a short demo demonstrates its AI collaborator noting an inquiry regarding regardless of whether an eatery is “group friendly” in view of pulling and understanding numerous reviews.

Ozlo’s site claims it has 30 workers, and a Facebook representative says most of the group will be joining Messenger in Facebook’s workplaces in either Menlo Park, Calif., or Seattle, Wash.

Facebook is purchasing the organization’s innovation and workforce, and it seems as if Ozlo’s innovation will overlay into Messenger’s current AI endeavors, however it’s indistinct if that incorporates Messenger’s current virtual aide, M.

“They’re just going to be working with [Messenger] to continue their work with artificial intelligence and machine learning,” a spokesperson said. She additionally declined to remark on the budgetary terms of the arrangement.

Back in May, Messenger’s product supervisor Stan Chudnovsky clarified that Facebook is centered around content based AI because voice discussions require a third step that content discussions don’t.

“Until we nail [text] we don’t want to go into a world where we teach people what we cannot do well,” Chudnovsky said. “Otherwise we’re going to be in the world where people very quickly realize certain things that we don’t do well yet and then they may not give us another try.”

The startup has raised $14 million from various financial specialists, including Greylock. As a feature of the obtaining, it will shade its current application and its enterprise APIs.
